Began playing golf at age 5, following in the footsteps of his golf teaching brother Mark, who is nine years older and the current coach at Columbus (GA) State University.Scratch player by age 12 and played the African Junior Golf Association Tour from age 13 to 17.
Father, Johan, is the former commissioner of the Sunshine Tour.
