UPDATE: Sunday was the week's slowest day for splashdowns on No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass with just four players -- six golf balls -- taking the plunge. The six ball Sunday count tied for the lowest final-round No. 17 since the start of the ShotLink era in 2003. Overall, there were 40 balls added to the collection at the bottom of 17's pond this week. That's good for the fifth-highest total in the last nine years and brings the count in that time span to 440 (48.8 per year).

ROUND 4 NOTES

• Mark O'Meara was the only player to splash a golf ball in multiple rounds at No. 17 this week. He rinsed two early Sunday morning as he concluded his third round, then lost another Sunday afternoon during the fourth round.

• Two of the top five finishers at TPC Sawgrass lost a ball on No. 17 this week. Paul Goydos (3rd) had one of his group's five lost balls during the second round. His double bogey was the best of his group's three scores. Luke Donald lost one early Sunday as he closed out his third round and settled for a bogey.

Hunter Mahan had the week's best tee shot on No. 18. Sunday morning, during his third round, he knocked his tee shot within six inches of the front left pin position. He wasn't done, however. Mahan's shot in the fourth round was the week's second best approach -- settling 15 inches from the pin.

• The 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass was the seventh toughest this week at THE PLAYERS Championship. Over the course of the tournament, No. 17 yielded 88 birdies, 277 pars, 43 bogeys, 16 double bogeys and 10 triple bogeys or worse.
